Well, I miscarried on May 13th. The same exact time in this process the last time! Luckily, it wasn't as life threatening as the first time. Nonetheless, the cramps and the process of miscarrying really sucked. No need for D&C which is nice. The fertility dr ruled out the egg donor and me...finally. I totally feel like my time has been wasted because after 3 attempts each with 2 other surrogates, why the heck didn't they think to check the guy's sperm??? WHY NOT after I miscarried the first time when I have no history of miscarriage OR problems with conceiving or carrying. I'm very frustrated because I have proven myself as a surrogate.
Why can't I just be lucky at this surrogacy thing and IVF just take the first try, have the baby 9 months later?? My other surro friends seem to have that good luck! Why not me? lol
Not sure what the IPs are going to do. I am thinking I might have to look for another couple to work with...unless the IPs can work on making a decision now b/c I really don't want to wait.
Anyways, I am somewhat annoyed right now, so I better just end it here so I don't write what I really think you should know! lol
Have a great day!

May 4th, 2009 - 2nd Transfer
Well I had my second transfer on Friday, April 24th. They transferred 3 frozen embryos. I made the trip alone as my daughter could not take anymore time off from school. So my stay in Chicago was pretty boring and friends who live in the area didn't come to visit. Oh well.
Doing a frozen transfer made me pretty nervous because we did not have success with it during my first surrogacy. My beta test is May 7th. So keeping my fingers crossed that it is good and that the numbers go up. On Saturday I got a positive home pregnancy, so now to wait...as well as pray that the embryos develop as they should and that I don't miscarry. I still don't know why that happened because I rested tons and took all my meds on time and as directed.
Anyways...keeping fingers crossed that I make it through the first trimester...usually by then things are good. :)
Will post again when I find out more.
Have a great day!

January 2, 2009 - A Sad Update
On the afternoon of Sunday, December 28th, 2008, I started to miscarry and the next 24 hours were just horrible. That Sunday night I drove myself to the ER because I was going through 1-2 overnight pads an hour and the blood clots were huge...and let me tell you...I'm not at all exaggerating on that! It was terrible! 3 hours later they sent me home because there was not much they could do just yet. My beta that night since the last one taken had risen to 1437.
Monday morning when I contacted the fertility clinic, my situation had not changed and I was passing out everytime I got up. They weren't very concerned...even giving me hope that I might not be miscarrying. They even wanted me to go in for labs, but I wasn't sure how that was going to happen b/c I could barely make it from the bedroom to the bathroom without passing out. The fertility clinic seemed to think this was because I was not getting enough fluids in. I was getting really scared and by this time I called my local OB. I think I passed out on his nurse while I was talking to her. The next thing I knew was that my husband taking me to the emergency room.
When we arrived at the emergency room, it was packed and I wanted to just cry, thinking I had a long wait. As I checked in, things happened so quickly. They were waiting for me and were instructed to bring me down to where they do day surgeries. I guess it was my realization what was really about to happen. They did do a beta for me, while not necessary, because either way I was having a d&c immediately. I was hemorraging and blacking out. If I didn't have the d&c, I was going to die. I can not tell you how scared I was; not to mention the worried look on my husband's face. The beta, I found out after the surgery, had dropped to 700 prior to the d&c.
I haven't heard from my IPs other then a short email from the husband yesterday. I'm not sure where we will go from here, but my contract does state that we will have 3 attempts. Despite my scare, I'm ready to move on and get ready for the next transfer. After the surgery, I can not tell you how much better I felt...although, I thought the spinal block would never wear off so I could go home. I'm still a bit tired from this all and have really bad headaches, which is probably a result of the spinal.
Spent a nice quite evening home with hubby and the kids on New Years Eve. Hope you all had a nice New Years eve too!
Hope you all have a good New Years!

December 23rd, 2008 - My Second Beta is Done!
Hi!
Well had my second Beta done today...phew...numbers are going up...I feel like it now justifies me feeling the morning sickness! I have to admit... while I have no reason to worry, I never had to do another beta after a good beta, so I worried about having this done again. Turns out that this clinic has you do them up until the actual ultrasound. This is actually a relief to know that the pregnancy is progressing...provided that numbers go up. So my next test will be Dec 31st and then the following week on Jan 7th, I will have the ultrasound!!! :)
Transfer Date: 12/09/08
1st Beta 10dp5dt: 95
2nd Beta 14dp5dt: 439
3rd Beta 22dp5dt: ??? (tentatively 12/31/08)
Ultrasound: ??? (tentatively 01/07/09)
So contrary to what many think/believe...you really can not tell from the beta numbers whether you are having a singleton or multiples. Some women test higher then others while others test lower. So we will have to wait until the ultrasound to know how many took! Still crossing my fingers for twins!
Continuing the same meds which I take via a pill and patches for the tummy...no shots! NO SHOTS...is that awesome or what??? No sex, No exercise. Ok...that works for me.... (poor hubby) lol
I'm feeling great...tired of course, but feeling great.
Hubby and I did our Christmas shopping yesterday in less then 2 hours for 4 kids! I did spend an extra $100 today which I have yet to tell hubby. lol We got our littlest one the Dora Magical Dollhouse...of course, you have to get the accessories per room...so I got what I thought were the only 4 rooms....to find out that we still need Dora's bedroom, the bathroom and the kitchen! AND PEOPLE! The dollhouse comes with Dora, a lamp and a couch! This HUGE house and that's all it came with! Well was able to find the kitchen, but no bedroom and bathroom! Got to find them!!! There were 5 people to buy too...of course, they all came separately. AND you have to buy Dora or you don't have all the things that Dora comes with...so now she will have 2 Doras! So I think by the time all is said and done...I thinking this $69 dollhouse will cost at least $200 with furnishings! Not sure which is worse....that or the games we had to buy for the Wii (2 games including Guitar Hero World Tour), DS (2 "hot" pokemon games) and XBox 360 (Call of Duty, exclusive to Target stores)!!! YIKES...I'm surprised we could get anything else for the kids! lol Well, the kids will all be happy. We put up a fake "Charlie Brown" tree (we hadn't the last 2 years) and that made the kids excited. We can't find our tree toppers (I know I have 2 of them). Couldn't find any nice ones in town, so it just looks funny. oh well.
In a couple of hours I can call my IPs and tell them the good news. :) What a wonderful Christmas they will have knowing now.
Well, will check in again in a week! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

December 19th, 2008 - I know now!!!
Hi Everyone!
Well, my daughter and I flew to Chicago on Friday, Dec 5th for the IVF transfer. While we were aiming for a 5 day transfer, I had to be there just in case they had to transfer on the 3rd day. So the 3 day transfer was set for Sunday, Dec 7th with the 5 day on Tuesday, Dec 9th. The transfer took place on Dec 9th as we hoped for. We were totally bored b/c it was too expensive to go anywhere via taxi. We stayed at a really nice hotel in Deerfield, a northern suburb of Chicago. The hotel was in the middle of a business office park, so nowhere to walk...not that we wanted to walk anywhere in zero degree snowy weather! lol Thank goodness for the indoor pool. We were more then happy to go home on Thursday, Dec 11th!
Super Thanks to Shayla and Tracy for watching my little ones while I was gone. They had the best times...neither one of them wanted to come home! lol Super thanks to Kate for taking care of all my arrangements... Did you know that on Northwest Airlines that you have to now pay for each luggage you check in?! I guess they have been doing this for a year...and you not only pay for each luggage going there, but going back!!! Was not expecting that fun added expense!!! Super thanks to hubby and my oldest son their support...its actually been exciting for hubby, our 4 kids and me to be going through another surrogacy. We are pros! lol Its nice to know what to expect...as well as know what I need. And thanks to Michelle and Tammy (my bingo buddies) for your support too! (Can't forget my bingo buddies, lol)
Anyways...thanks to my IPs for being so nice to me as well as allowing my oldest daughter to come with me on the trip. She was most helpful during the two days of bedrest. I am very fortunate that we are a great close relationship. We did have lots of fun.
So let me tell you about the transfer.... on Dec 9th they transferred 2 beautiful looking embryos. It was so different then how they did it at the other clinic...well at least the part after they plant the embryos. They put them in, then take the tubing to the lab to make sure that its clear (meaning no embryos, even though we saw them via the ultrasound). Then they said, ok...you're done and you can go home! HEY WAIT....no laying with your butt up in the air with a full bladder for an hour??? NOPE! Wow, I was so in shock that it wasn't until 5 hours later I realized that I didn't empty my bladder! lol Well I guess it could have been the valium that I took when I got there! Hey...that was nice taking that...not to mention I slept well the next 2 days...lol...ok not sure it lasted that long but I slept a lot!
Well, I think I got a bunch of bad cheap preggo tests b/c I never got a positive with them as of last Wed! BUT Sat, Sun and Mon I was super tired...frequent bathroom trips and goofy overal happy emotions...you know tears while watching the afternoon soaps...lol So after I picked my daughter up from Volleyball on Monday night, we stopped and got a box of ClearBlue digital tests...good deal too... 5 for $20! Just enough for one a day until my blood test. lol I used one of the digital tests that night but it said NOT PREGNANT! :( That was sort of sad b/c it was the 6th day after the transfer, but when I woke up on Tuesday and did the digital test again...it said PREGNANT! WOW, right? So I did another digital, same thing. Of course I took another digital test Wed and Thurs mornings too...PREGNANT...never can be too sure, right?! But didn't want to get too excited or tell anyone b/c a positive home test doesn't necessarily mean a viable pregnancy (past experience). On Tuesday after I got the first positive home test, I received the most beautiful roses, which came with a cute box of Godiva Chocolates! What a great surprise from my IPs...just a nice Thank you from them...not knowing that I just tested positive either. :) So that was neat. Thank you sooo much for the roses!
I guess I don't remember this with my first surrogacy but I started to spot last night and more so this morning...with terrible cramping that I could not distinguish between gas or cramps! LOL Nevertheless I was in a panic at the sign of spotting. Thank goodness I found out that its NORMAL to spot! phew, right?!
Ok...are you waiting for my beta results? Dec 19th...my results are 95, and I will retake the test on Tuesday to make sure the pregnancy is progressing as it should be. 95 is good and means I'm pregnant. YEAH! My IPs were extremely excited and happy. I made my first International Phone call today, lol. So many numbers. lol I left messages for them on their cell phones to call me. So it was exciting when we finally caught up today. They actually found out via email from the Fertility Clinic, as they must give them updates. I am just so thankful to give this exciting news in time for the holidays...and to know that this time next year, they will be having a wonderful holiday with their child(ren). I am anxious to see how the numbers will go up...Tuesday can't be here any sooner! lol I forgot to see when my ultrasound will be...I suppose maybe 3 or 4 weeks? Anyways, pray for me please or cross your fingers that all goes well and I make it to the 2nd trimester. I don't foresee any problems but it's just not good to tell people until after you've gotten through the first trimester. KWIM?

Well it was so nice to chat with my IPs. Hearing their excitement about a positive pregnancy test makes me so happy for them. I'm glad that they chose me to be their surrogate. I look forward to actually meeting them. :)
Well, I'm so glad Dec 19th came and now I know! Now to wait for the day when I go in for the ultrasound so they can confirm the pregnancy with the verification of a heartbeat!
As for me...I am doing very well. I am continuing my meds and prenatals. I feel a bit tired but no biggie b/c I'm great about taking naps. lol The kids are on Holiday break now until after the new year. I love that because it means that we can all sleep in!

We are expecting another snow storm here. Sort of hoping it comes because then my husband won't make the trek to his parents house tomorrow...so then I have his truck to go to bingo at the legion! lol I've been going every Saturday since they started on Nov 1st...so I feel I can't miss it! Have I ever told you how much I LOVE playing bingo? lol Exciting life living in the country, eh?
Well, got to run. Have a great weekend!
